What Courses are Phasing Out at UNISA?

What Courses are Phasing Out at UNISA? The University of South Africa (UNISA) has recently announced significant changes to its academic offerings, particularly in the School of Engineering. As part of an ongoing effort to align with new educational standards and industry requirements, several National Diplomas (ND) qualifications are being phased out.

What Courses are Phasing Out at UNISA?

The following National Diplomas qualifications offered by UNISA’s School of Engineering have officially been discontinued:

  • NDEID: National Diploma in Engineering: Industrial
  • NDEMC: National Diploma in Engineering: Mechanical
  • NDMIN: National Diploma in Mining Engineering
  • NDMSR: National Diploma in Engineering: Metallurgical
  • NDECI: National Diploma in Engineering: Civil
  • NDEEN: National Diploma in Engineering: Electrical
  • NDENG: National Diploma in Engineering: Engineering (General)
  • NDPPT: National Diploma in Engineering: Pulp and Paper Technology

These courses have been gradually phased out, and the academic year 2023 marked the final offering of the modules associated with these qualifications.

What This Means for Current and Prospective Students

For students who were enrolled in any of these phased-out programs, the last opportunity to complete the necessary modules was during the 2023 academic year. After this period, UNISA no longer offers these specific courses, and students are encouraged to explore alternative qualifications that align with their career goals.

UNISA has implemented these changes to stay current with industry demands and to provide education that equips students with the skills and knowledge required in the modern workforce. The university is now focusing on offering more specialized and up-to-date programs that better serve the needs of its students and the engineering sector.

Transitioning to New Qualifications

Students affected by these changes are advised to consult with academic advisors at UNISA to explore their options. The university offers a range of other engineering qualifications and programs that may serve as suitable alternatives for continuing their education.

Conclusion

While the phasing out of these National Diplomas at UNISA’s School of Engineering may be a significant shift, it reflects the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality education that meets current and future industry standards.
