Ahead of the May/June online examinations, the University of South Africa has tightened up its examination process and urged all students to follow the rules and regulations.

In preparation for the upcoming May/June 2023 online exams, the University of South Africa (Unisa) is reinforcing its student examination rules.The online nature of the Unisa exams has led to an increase in exam cheating and plagiarism in the past.
As a result, the strict rules are reinforced to prevent students from taking advantage of the exam process.According to UniSA, the university will continue to tighten examination rules and processes in order to ensure academic integrity. Students found violating examination rules will be held accountable.
Students will now have 30 minutes to upload their written examination answer scripts on the official myExams platform, with only one opportunity to submit multiple-choice questions.
According to Unisa
- In addition, listening to audio (music) and utilising audio-to-text software has been strictly prohibited during your examination session, unless use of the software is related to a student’s assistive device which has been declared.
Listening to music or using such software without declaring it violates Unisa’s examination rules, which results in the loss of marks for the studentStudents found to have been outside the invigilator app for a total of 10 minutes during their examination session will be considered to have violated Unisa’s examination rules, and their marks will be forfeited.Unisa also prohibits the use of Artificial Intelligence software (ChatGPT, etc.) and online sources (Course Material) during online exams.
If Unisa’s examination rule is violated by proctoring or invigilation images that are unrecognizable, obscured, faint or do not contain a full facial image, students’ marks will be withheld.
