Payment Amounts

The Social Security Administration has announced the payment amounts, which can vary based on the type of benefit you receive:

  • Social Security Retirement Benefits: Up to $4,555.
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Up to $1,371 for married couples and $914 for single individuals.
  • Dependent Children with Qualifying Disabilities: They may also receive SSI payments.
  • Essential Persons: SSI beneficiaries, receiving checks of up to $458 in 2023.

Please note that not all beneficiaries are eligible for both Social Security and SSI payments. Let’s explore who qualifies for these payments in November 2023.

Second Social Security Check – November 3, 2023

On November 3, 2023, a second round of Social Security payments will be issued. This payment is available to specific groups:

  • SSI Beneficiaries: SSI beneficiaries can receive their retirement benefits on November 3.
  • Long-Term Retirement Beneficiaries: Social Security will also send payments to retirement beneficiaries who started receiving checks before May 1997.

Payment Amounts for Retirement Benefits

The amount you receive depends on when you filed for retirement:

  • Filing at Age 62: Maximum amount of $2,572 in 2023.
  • Full Retirement Age: Maximum payment of up to $3,627.
  • Average Retirement Checks: Typically around $1,841 as of September 2023.

Combine Retirement and SSI Checks

If you receive retirement checks only, consider applying for SSI, as you may be eligible for both forms of financial support. This can provide you with additional monthly income. However, you must have a low income to qualify for SSI. If you haven’t filed for retirement, you can watch the government’s video to learn more about planning for your financial future.

Please note that a significant increase in benefits is expected in 2024 due to a 3.2% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), although this increase will not take effect until January. However, SSI beneficiaries will receive the 2024 COLA in advance on December 29, as New Year’s Day is a holiday. This increase is significantly lower compared to the 8.7% COLA in 2023.
