Delays Confirmed For May 2025 SASSA Grant Payments. Many grant beneficiaries will not receive their May 2025 grants. Sassa says this is part of an effort to improve the social security system’s integrity. Some May 2025 social grant payments will be delayed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Sassa says the delay aims to encourage affected individuals to visit local Sassa offices to verify their personal information and update their financial information. In order to ensure that only eligible individuals are receiving support, the agency wants to resolve possible inclusion errors.

Beneficiaries will be individuals who receive grants using alternatives to the standard 13-digit ID number. After a review conducted in collaboration with Home Affairs, it was discovered that many of these individuals have valid 13-digit IDs in the Home Affairs database, but these were not reflected in Sassa.

For their 13-digit ID numbers to be correctly recorded, these clients must present themselves at Sassa offices.  Grant payments will be suspended for beneficiaries who do not verify their details at Sassa offices.

“Failing to do so may result in suspension of grants, and if uncorrected, the grants may eventually lapse.”

Result follow-up for the SASSA Means Test

Sassa will also grant beneficiaries flagged in a recent bulk means test. It identified individuals with undisclosed income in alternative bank accounts. Beneficiaries will also be required to verify their details in person.

Social grants may be reviewed at any time if there is reason to believe that a beneficiary’s circumstances have changed in compliance with Regulation 30 of the Social Assistance Act.

People who are no longer eligible for grants after improving their financial situation may have qualified for a grant at the time of application

Strengthening Fraud-Detection Systems

In the 2025/2026 financial year, Sassa will increase efforts to ensure that all grant recipients regularly verify their eligibility, according to spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi.

Clients will be identified monthly and asked to verify their personal information at our offices,

The verification process is not only about ensuring beneficiary compliance, but also about eliminating internal corruption, according to Letsatsi.

Sassa officials may also be colluding with outsiders to defraud the system, so we will investigate this possibility as well,

In order to avoid disruptions in payments and to ensure a fair and transparent social assistance system, beneficiaries are encouraged to cooperate fully with the verification process.

Conclusion

Delays in May 2025 SASSA grant payments are part of efforts to improve system integrity. Beneficiaries must verify their details in person to avoid suspension. Sassa urges full cooperation to maintain fair, transparent, and fraud-free social assistance for all recipients.
